Covid has impacted us in many different ways. The demand for bursaries for music lessons remains strong and is in fact likely to increase as a result of covid. Most of the Surrey Arts Students we fund and both our Future talent and Award for Young Musicians students are continuing with their music lessons. The only difference is that most of the lessons have been taking place on-line rather than in person. We are already seeing an increase in applications from parents who have been financially affected by covid’s impact on jobs and the economy. The restrictions on live performances has meant that we have had to post phone the visit by the National Youth Jazz Orchestra which we had pre-funded with Surrey Arts. Our funding has also been impacted. We have not been able to hold some of the fund raising live music events we were planning eg a second music making evening for Cheryl’s friends. Individual donations have therefore become all the important for us in covid times and we are seeking to expand regular giving to the trust.
